Hey there Stencil Fans!
Natalie here today sharing a quick and easy Art Journal page I created with our theme this month, Masks.
I think most of us create our various forms of Art in so many different ways and often use our Artworks as Masks to hide ourselves from the real world, project our feelings or express something a lot deeper.
This Art Journal page is all about how I wear a mask that allows me to create whatever I damn well please! It's about the Freedom I get from creating a Journal page ... a mask I often wear when I am working in public too... a Mask that gives me confidence.... My Art gives me Freedom.
Let me talk you through the simple steps to create this page.
I started in my Junk Journal on a page that was a blue cardstock base.
Using a brayer, I applied a thin coat of Acrylic Paint in light grey then using the Use Your Words Stencil, I applied Distress Oxide in Frayed Burlap across the page. What I loved about this is the Distress Oxide lightened up leaving the stenciled image matching the background perfectly.
I wanted a face to lay over the top next so this StencilClub Release from November 2018 was perfect!
Using a combination of blues and teals in acrylic paint, I used a latex sponge to gently sponge over the top.
Once it was dry, I wanted to add the 'Mask" element so the Art Is Freedom Collage paper was perfect but I added some white gesso with my palette knife first and then used gel medium to adhere it to the page.
Finally, I finished the page with a few white splatters and a black border.
The Mask is complete.
