All the Shades of Black with Natalie May

Hey there!

I'm back and cant wait for another amazing term with StencilGirl!


Today I am sharing a Scrapbook page featuring a photo of my Besties and I taken just before Christmas.


These girls are just my absolute superstars and I had the perfect stencil to frame my image.

Here are some simple steps to re-create this projects

I used the 9x12 Stencil that came with the August 2017 StencilClub on 300gsm Watercolour paper and lightly, using a pencil, traced one of the stars across my page.

 
 

I then used a range of Blacks from Lindys Gang, to add color to my stars.
They will act like watercolors on the watercolor paper but have a distinct permanency to them that you just cant get from watercolor - I freaking LOVE THEM!



Each star has a different shade of black in it ... I added more water to some to make them more intense and less water to others to make the pigment darker ... loving all those juicy shade of black.




Once dry, I then went back with my stencil and traced the images in Black Pen so that I could see the shape clearly.



I used the Illegible Stencil with Distress Oxide and a blending brush to add some more interest in a few places.
And finally some stamping with Distress Oxide for a little balance.

I love working in Monochromatic tines - definitely something that I am comfortable with and with a limited color palette, you certainly cant go too wrong!

    I would never have thought of a monochromatic black layout as being a "happy" one, but that is how this makes me feel.

    This is very pretty. I really like the different tones of black. I appreciate the fact that your photo isn't lost amidst all of the elements in the page. So many times I see beautiful layouts in which the picture is overwhelmed by the decorative elements-especially florals. Your picture pops and my eye was automatically drawn to it.

      Thanks Annette ... lets be honest - that is what scrapbooking is all about - the PHOTO - the element that is often forgotten. I wish more people would focus on that rather than all the other stuff!
